It was beginning to get dark, and Theo wouldn't look anywhere but the ground at this point. They were a few feet from the edge, and Bridgette was busy aggressively tightening one end of the rope to a vertical crumbling rock. Lola stood there watching her, and couldn't help but feel a bit nervous about crossing. Stumbling over her on feet, she decided to try and talk to her.
'Bridgette, you know we don't actually have to-''Nope, you said it yourself. We're going.'Theo then started,
'You know the dangerous risks of-''I said we're crossing.' Bridgette turned and sat flat on the ground with her legs sprawled out and her arms holding up her weight.
'I'm doing this for a reason.''What reason?' The other two said in unison.
Bridgette stopped herself and gazed for a second.'That doesn't matter.'-Theo and Lola glanced at each other- 'What does matter is that I actually tried doing this by myself. My mom caught me and managed to get me back, but that doesn't stop me from wanting to cross.' She glanced over her shoulder to the edge. The gap was colossal, making it impossible for any living species to jump it. It was the size of half a football pitch. 'There is no way you did that.' Lola said, also staring at the distance.'Yes, I did, any more questions on my recent near-death?' Lola silently turned away and paced, muttering to herself.Meanwhile, Theo picked up a stone that just fit into his palm, and launched it over to the other side. The stone hit the edge of the dirt, and made an unsteady twirl before plummeting into the absence of light.
'I'll die today.' 'If you do,' The brunette said standing up, 'then you might want to say goodbye first. People will think your
missing for a good amount of years.''I'll die today and no one will know...' Theo trailed off, turning to walk away, but then whipping back to Bridgette.
'Is this really necessary? Is there a reason you're dragging us along? I mean, look at us, look at this gap. Why do you even live here anyway, this close to it - you didn't think of moving even especially after the incident?''We did, but we can't purchase a house better than this one.''Then sell this one?''Brilliant idea, but I doubt there are many people willing to buy a place where half the world splits and a young boy once died when he slipped by mistake.''Fair point.'Bridgette grasped her rope and forcefully tied a hook onto it.
She then launched as far as she could to the other side, and it missed the other edge entirely.Theo stared into the distance where the rope fell slowly, but as quickly as possible at the same time. He threw his
head in his hands and winced.Lola, also cringing at the fact that she was goin to attempt the world's deadliest tightrope walk, helped Bridgette pull up the rope.'Maybe I should throw it.' She sighed.
Lola had her own run-up as she thrust the hook far into the sky, then gradually plunged straight into the dark dirt.'What in the world....' The hazel-eyed boy frowned, as the others tugged on the rope to check how secure it was.'Welp,' Bridgette sighed, standing up and turning to the boy next to her, 'Go on then.'
